Why are NCAA basketball players not getting paid?

You hear about NBA players getting paid tons of money because of their athletic ability to jump super high and have crazy strength but not everyone gets paid. For example, college players get paid no money. For some weird reason the college league just forgets about their most important players? Why does the NCAA allow this?

Most of the Duke college games are very intense and very high cost because of one man, and that one man is Zion Williamson. Zion is one of the most talented basketball players, and why wouldn't he be? He is 6’7, 285 pounds and moves fast. One of his games was against a rival, UNC. some of the tickets sold for more than ten thousand dollars! And you might think some of that money would go to the players. Well if you thought that then you're wrong. College basketball players get paid no money, No matter how big the game is or how much money the tickets were being sold for, All the money goes to the school. This is because there is a rule that college basketball athletes are not allowed to be paid. But is this really the right thing to do? They play as hard as they can for the sport they love for no money?

College sports have a lot of money, mostly from famous american sports like basketball. Ticket purchases aren't even the main place where they get their money from. Nike pays Duke millions of dollars to use their equipment, then there is the money for commercial breaks or stuff being sold at the stadium where the players play.  But shouldn't at least some money go to the players? However they also spend a lot of money on coaches, traveling, and stadiums. Some really good coaches get paid millions. This is one of the main reasons why college athletes aren't paid; they are spending more money on other and other aspects of the game.

But it still isn't fair to spend millions on coaches but no money on the athletes. And it's not fair that the college athletes try to make their team win even though they don't get paid money! And to make it even worse they have school also! However, because they are athletes, the school is giving them free school and a free dorm with free food to play for their team. so in a way they are getting paid, and sometimes they will get free trainers to help them practice.  And, if you are lucky enough or are talented enough, then a professional team will draft you. And you can also play basketball overseas a minor league or the pros. So, either way the players still get paid money.

However if you want this career, you got to play the hardest you have ever played because only 2 percent of college athletes get picked to go into the NBA.  then there is another scary part in playing these sports, you can have a career ending injury. this happens to more players than you think it happens to. for example Zion was supposed to be one of the best basketball player of all time but his injury wasn't a career ending injury, however it did impact his professional career.

Even if basketball players get a scholarship and a lot of free stuff, they should still get paid.  though with all these benefits they should have some money, because once they get out of college they would need a job if they don't make it to the pros.

  1. So, career ending injury happens to many? This is why I dislike NBA.

  2. I really like how you talked about why players should get paid and why they are not getting paid because it really put everything in perspective. What did you mean when you said if they don't make it to the pros at the end of your blog?
