American Football
“Kyler Murray steps back in the pocket ,7 seconds he escapes the pocket and is running to the side line 5 seconds and he heaves one deep to DeAndre Hopkins, 3 seconds, and it is caught!” Deandre hopkins with 3 men guarding him it was almost impossible to make that chach. Most of you might know what I am talking about and some of you don't. Well this is one of the most craziest plays in NFL history. American football is one of the most popular sports in america, and one of the most competitive sports in america. The game is very fun to watch but just as fun to play, the field is 100 yards long and 60 yards wide, but the endzones are about 5 yards long. to win a football game you need to be physical and has to have a strategy. There are also 11 people on the field at all times but the team is actually made out of 45 players. To go down the field you need to get a first down. To get a first down you have 4 chances to run or throw the ball but you need 2 feet down and control of the ball for it to be a completed catch. if you do not get the first down then the opponents get the ball. But you can also kick the ball on fourth down so that they could be farther away from your endzone.
however when the offensive team has the ball the quarterback can also throw an interception, an interception is when a defensive player catches the ball that was supposed to be thrown to the offensive player, then the defense gets the ball where the defensive player got tackled.
On an extra point your kicker needs to kick the ball in between the 2 yellow posts but you can also miss these but the defense can also block the ball and recover the ball and run it in for a 2 point score. On 2 point attempts you don't have as high of a chance to get it but you can get 1 more point than you will get from a extra point, you have to get these 2 points from running or passing. But if your running play gets stopped then you don't get an extra 2 points or an incomplete pass will not count either. But the defense can also make you fumble and get it for 2 points, or they can catch an interception for 2 points. Now we covered how you can score as an offense here are some ways to score on defense. But you have 4 15 minute quarters and some breaks during the 2nd and 4th quarter at the same time which is at 2 minutes.
You can also have penalties called on you for doing something that you weren't supposed to do.
first of all their is clipping which is a loss of 15 yards on the offense, then there is chopping which is a loss of 15 yards for the offense, delay of game which results in a loss of 5 yards for the offense, offsides can go on either side of the football if they passed the line of scrimmage and is a loss or a gain of 5 yards, facemasks is a loss or gain of 15 yards, failure to report is a loss of 5 yards on the offense, false start in a loss of 5 yards and roughing the passer. There are much more penalties in the league but there are too many to list.
But one of the most important part of football is where it originated from. Football came from one of the oldest forms of rugby. It used to be just like rugby until walter camp made changes to the rules and the game. However it was not introduced until 1892 but in 1903 the ohio league was formed but eventually its named was changed to the national football league also known as the NFL.
The NFL is still played to this day and is one of the most watched sports in history and one of the most viewed football games are the playoffs. The playoffs are made out of all the winning teams in the league to face of in each other if you win you move on to the next round but if you lose your seasons over. There are 3 rounds of the playoff, the wildcard where the teams that barely have a winning record face off against each other, the davitinal round where the the divisional leaders face of against the wild card teams to make it onto the next round, then there is the AFC championship and the NFC championship both championships have the same rules the best team from both of the divisions face of to win and go to the superbowl. This is some of the most watched football games but it is nothing compared to the superbowl.
The pro bowl is a bowl not like the superbowl. It is made up of all the best stars of each division and face off against each other to win a trophy. But that is nothing compared to the superbowl. Compared by the numbers the super bowl is the most watched event in history. It involves the best team from every division to face off against each other in a battle to hold the lombardi trophy and become superbowl champions.

Your description at the beginning is amazing! I feel like I actually watched the game live. I never noticed that there are only 11 players on the field at a time. If that's the case, why do they need 45 players on the team? Does everyone get to play during the season? Thanks to your post, I understand American Football a lot better now.
ReplyDeleteWOW! This was a very interesting topic to read about! I like how you used the beginning as an event that I was able to picture. I also like how you kept me entertained throughout the passage. I usually only watch the AFC Championship, a little bit of the NFC Championship, and the Superbowl but now I might go watch a few other games.
